A morning visit to Goathland with a ride over the moors to Whitby where you spend the rest of the day before returning home.

 

This bracing moorland village has attracted visitors since the 19th century, but numbers soared following its appearance (as 'Aidensfield') in the television series 'Heartbeat' and its role in the 'Harry Potter' films. It's fun to arrive on the trains of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, after which walkers can enjoy lots of local strolls and hikes.

 

Many flock to Whitby for its boutique shops and quirky streets, where you will find unique Whitby jet jewellery and other fascinating items. The town is also home to several annual events including the Bram Stoker International Film Festival and the Whitby Goth Weekend.
