Day 1
Your holiday starts with a pick-up from home by one of the vehicles in our Door-to-Door service and this will bring you through to our coach. Once everyone is on board, we'll make our way to Huntingdon with suitable comfort breaks during the journey. We'll aim to arrive late afternoon to give you time to unpack and freshen up before dinner.
Day 2
After breakfast, we travel through stunning countryside to Haddon Hall, set in the heart of the beautiful Peak District National Park. Recognised as one of the most romantic houses in Britain, the house and grounds have played host to a number of films including Jane Eyre, Elizabeth, Pride & Prejudice and The Other Boleyn Girl. We have free time for lunch here before visiting the charming village of Castleton, known as the "Gem of the
Peaks", after which we continue our scenic drive enjoying the wonderful view of the Ladybower Reservoir, which, along with the Derwent and Howden reservoirs, was made famous during World War II when it was used by the Dambusters RAF squadron to practice low level flying techniques.
Day 3
Today, we visit Tatton Park, set in 1,000 acres of beautiful parkland. We will be accompanied on an entertaining tour by the Edwardian servants, looking at life "below stairs" as they go about their daily tasks. We have free time to stroll around the spectacular 50 acre gardens before making our way to Knutsford, the inspiration and setting for Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford. Elizabeth Gaskell lived in Knutsford for many years and is buried in the churchyard and we can learn more about the 'real' Cranford during our visit to the Knutsford Heritage Centre.
Day 4
This morning, we travel to the World of Wedgwood which celebrates the very best of British industrial design and heritage. We have the option of taking a factory tour before visiting the museum and the flagship factory outlet store. We spend a peaceful afternoon exploring nearby Trentham Gardens, with its splendid Italian Garden, pleasure grounds and fairies!
Day 5
We begin our journey home today.
