Golden Sands of Norfolk
Originally famed for its smoked herring, and the birthplace of the fish finger, the seaside resort of Great Yarmouth has come a long way from its fishing port heritage to become the UKs third most popular holiday destination, and with its golden beaches, broads, heritage and beautiful countryside, its not hard to understand why.
The Bure Valley Railway is Norfolks longest Narrow-Gauge Steam Railway, built on the track bed of part of the former Great Eastern Railway. The nine-mile line runs from the stunning Bure Valley countryside to the meandering River Bure through meadowland and picturesque villages. As part of this tour, you will enjoy both rail and waterway travel with a ninety-minute circular cruise of the Norfolk Broads. The Broads are referred to as Britains Magical Waterland and is as abundant in history and folklore as it is in wildlife now with the status of a National Park, the Broads are made up of thirty shallow lakes which are connected by rivers and dykes that form approximately two-hundred miles of tranquil waterways.
Norfolk has undoubtedly been a very self-sufficient county throughout the years, from working the land to living off it, and the Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary pays tribute and raises awareness to this. With daily demonstrations, you can see the amazing heavy horses working, cultivating and harrowing as they would have in ages past. There is also a collection of machinery from throughout the ages, lovingly restored and some even in working order to represent the trials, tribulations and triumphs of man vs nature. Founded in 1995 to help and campaign for animals in need, their mission is to bring public awareness to the suffering that animals endure due to the intensive factory farming industry.
