Our journey through Orkney and Caithness is a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time on this unique and spectacular island, which is steeped in a rich heritage featuring prehistoric sites even older than Stonehenge! Set against the dramatic backdrop of the North Atlantic Sea and its windswept landscapes, our local guide will provide expert commentary to bring this incredible history to life. During our stay on the island, we will be based in the main town of Kirkwall, giving us plenty of chances to explore its key attractions.

Ayre Hotel, Orkney***

Located across the road from the shore and close to the Kirkwall’s pier. All the bedrooms have TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee facilities.

Pentland Hotel, Thurso***

Located in the centre of Thurso, overlooking the Orkney Islands, this welcoming hotel is the perfect place from which to explore and enjoy the delights of the far north of Scotland.  All bedrooms are en-suite with tea/coffee facilities, TV, telephone, hairdryer and Wi-Fi.  The hotel does not have a lift.
