Sherwood Forest is a landmark thousands of years in the making, alive with nature, history and tall tales, all waiting to be explored.  The Sherwood Forest New Visitor Centre is the gateway to this historic woodland, which along with keeping the legend of Robin Hood alive is home to the oldest oak in Britain, the iconic Major Oak which has stood firm through history for 800 – 1100 years and is reputed to have sheltered the renegade local heroes as they hid from the law. 

Perched on Castle Rock, Nottingham Castle has watched as scenes of disarray have played out.  Rebellion and resistance against injustice has never been far away, in particular as the Industrial Revolution took hold, pitching Nottingham into dark times, with the Luddites smashing industrial machinery in order to defend their livelihoods and the Castle itself being torched.  After almost half a century, the Castle rose from its charred remains and an art gallery started a new age of revolution.  Although no longer a Castle in a traditional sense, it’s a great place to see a catalogue of art, objects and fascinating information that is organised in four revolutionary themes brought together in one place. 

The ideal tour for history lovers, you will be able to follow the footsteps of local legend, Robin Hood and enjoy the natural beauty and tranquillity of Sherwood Forest, walk through the ages at Nottingham Castle and discover the incredible story of the King under the car park.
