Notorious for being wild and rugged, Scotland is also very empathic to its surrounds, harnessing and collaborating with the sheer power of nature to highlight its beauty and celebrate its heritage. 

Perthshire is widely renowned for its arboreal richness and accommodates the world’s tallest hedge, Europe’s oldest tree and the sole survivor of Shakespeare’s Birnam Wood, the Birnam Oak.  It therefore stands to reason that the award-winning show that fuses creative talent and nature would be held in Faskally Wood.  The Enchanted Forest is Scotland’s favourite sound and light show and the first outdoor illumination event in the UK of its kind; using the forest as a natural backdrop, with an original music score, the lighting show is, quite simply out of this world. 

Blair Athol Distillery stands at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands in the picturesque town of Pitlochry.  Blair Athol’s ancient source of water – the Allt Dour – flows through the grounds from the slopes of Ben Vrackie, contributes to the mellow quality and smooth finish of the whisky.  The whiskies here are mostly matured in sherry casks so err on the sweeter side, although a lot of Blair Athol whiskies contribute towards the blend production, most notably Bell’s.  For the connoisseurs among you, there will be other options to taste for a more traditional whisky experience.

Poised above the River Tay in Perthshire, Scone Palace overlooks the routes north to the Highlands and east through Strathmore to the coast.  The Grampian mountains form a distant backdrop, and across the river stands the city of Perth.  Scone absolutely breathes history and has claims to an incredibly colourful heritage.  A visit to Scone can be enjoyed on many levels – the parklands complete with maze are superb, the rooms are opulent and of course, the history is fascinating.
