Whisky and History of Perthshire

It is believed that whisky making began in Scotland and we visit Blair Atholl, the spiritual home of Bells, one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland established in 1798 in the picturesque town of Pitlochry. Dramatic, historic Balhousie Castle is both the ancestral home of the elite Black Watch and the unique setting for the incredible museum which tells the enticing story of the Regiment.  Scone Palace was the ancient crowning place of Scottish kings on the stone of Scone and the palace lives and breathes history dating back to the 1800s. Discover what life was like in the prehistoric Iron Age era at the Scottish Crannog Centre, a true living museum.

Day 1

Your holiday starts with a pickup from home by one of the vehicles from our Door-to-Door service which will bring you through to our coach. We'll make suitable stops en-route to the hotel and will aim to be at the hotel early evening.

Day 2

After a leisurely breakfast, we make the short journey to the Blair Atholl Distillery for our guided tour. One of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and the spiritual home of Bells, Blair Atholl produces the signature malt of the best-selling Scotch in the UK. Returning to the hotel, you'll have the rest of the day at leisure to enjoy Pitlochry.

Day 3

Our first visit today is to the Black Watch Castle and Museum. Set in beautiful gardens and grounds in the heart of historic Perth and with origins dating back to the 12th century, dramatic, historic Balhousie Castle is both the ancestral home of The Black Watch Regiment and the unique setting for the incredible museum. We then make the short journey to Scone Palace, once the crowning place of Scottish kings on the stone of Scone. The palace lives and breathes history, dating back to the 1800s.

Day 4

This morning, we head to The Scottish Crannog Centre, a true living museum which explores what life was like in the prehistoric Iron Age era. There's a guided tour of the museum, which is a remarkable reconstructed crannog, a living history area with hands-on demonstrations of ancient crafts and technologies. As we make our way back to the hotel, we'll stop at the Queens View Visitor Centre. The Queen's View is said to have been named after Queen Victoria following her visit to the area in 1866 and the stunning viewpoint overlooking Loch Tummel and beyond to the iconic Schiehallion is one of the most photographed areas in Scotland.

Day 5

Leaving the hotel after breakfast, we begin the journey home. We'll make suitable stops en-route to your drop off point where the Door-to-Door vehicles will be waiting to take you home.
