Day 2
We make the most of our extraordinary base this morning with a guided tour of the adjacent Bodmin Jail visitor attraction. We find out about the origins of the prison and get an insight into what life was like behind bars in the 18th and 19th centuries, learning about some of the inmates and their crimes. We also see the infamous Execution Pit, which has been restored to full working condition. In the afternoon, we visit the magnificent Lanhydrock House & Garden, where we explore the beautiful gardens and the two sides of Victorian life in this fabulous stately home, from the "below stairs" kitchens, nurseries and servants' quarters, to the luxurious family areas, elegant dining room and spacious bedrooms of "upstairs" living.
Day 3
We spend this morning at leisure in the beautiful, historical harbour town of Fowey. Here, we can browse the lovely independent shops, boutiques and galleries, or tuck into a traditional Cornish cream tea while watching the fishing boats sail by. This afternoon, we visit the world-famous Eden Project. Stroll around the stunning Rainforest Biome, the largest indoor rainforest in the world, and meander through the Mediterranean Biome, discovering the amazing variety of plants that grow in the warm temperate regions of the world. Outside, there are more than 20 acres of gardens to browse, featuring everything from beautiful ornamental flowers to crops used for medicine, fuels, materials and food.
Day 4
We begin our day with a gardener tour of the exotic Lamorran Gardens, a subtropical, Italianate inspired garden. Its unique position on Cornwall's beautiful Roseland Peninsula means the garden remains largely frost-free, allowing a wide range of spectacular plants from all over the world to grow. (Please note, due to various flights of steps, the garden is unsuitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility.) We then have some time at leisure in the pretty village of St Mawes before taking a short ferry to Falmouth. We spend the afternoon exploring this lovely coastal town known for its fascinating maritime heritage. We may wish to visit the National Maritime Museum Cornwall or Pendennis Castle, or simply stroll around the harbour, beaches, galleries and shops.
Day 5
Reluctantly, it's time for home
