With its craggy coastline, it’s easy to see the history of the area – from the harbour town of Ramsey, to where the smugglers lurked in Port Erin, not to mention the stunning views of the Calf of Man from Cregneash and those of Castletown from the vantage point of Castle Rushen. A half-day trip to Laxey to visit the Laxey Mines and the Great Laxey Wheel (the largest working waterwheel in the world) ore if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, there are plenty of shops and cafes in the enchanting harbourside village.
Chesterhouse Hotel, Douglas
Set on the seafront of Douglas, the traditional townhouse of the Chester House Hotel is a striking building that offers you every comfort from a great location.

Day 1
After collecting you from your pickup point, we will make our way to the ferry terminal for our crossing to the island before making our way to the hotel, arriving in time ro unpack before your evening meal.
Day 2
Today, we will embark on the Northern coast of the island, where we will visit Ramsey, where many invasions took place during the Middle Ages. We will then make our way to the ancient harbour town of Peel, with its fortified cathedral before returning to the hotel.
Day 3
We will take a journey around the Southern coast to visit Port Erin, both a smugglers haunt and holiday destination for the rich business owners from Lancaster in Victorian times. We will also visit the tip of the island to see Cregneash and its impressive views of the Calf of Man. Our journey will then take us to Castletown for some free time around the narrow harbour overlooked by Castle Rushen.
Day 4
On our last full day, we will visit the Laxey Mines, which were the deepest mines in the world during the 1800s. We will discover the Great Laxey Wheel which pumped water out of the mines for generations, as well as visiting the Laxey Woollen Mill, the last remaining working Mill on the island that makes the Manx tartan. There will also be a visit to the village, where you will find plenty of shops and cafes around the beautiful harbour.
Day 5
Today, after breakfast, we will make our way back to the docks for our ferry crossing to Heysham and our return to your drop-off points.
