It has been said that it's grim up North, but with such stunning architecture and deep-rooted history involving Vikings, pirates, and earthquakes, we strongly disagree! York has a dark history, Lincoln is already a familiar favourite and finally Hull is home and awarded City of Culture
Historic York & Lincoln
Home of the famous cathedral, resting place of the original Magna Carta and epicentre of earthquakes, Lincoln is already a familiar favourite on the sightseeing map and really needs no introduction. Brush up on your history, limber up for an expedition up Steep Hill or if you prefer to flex the plastic instead of your calf muscles, check out the shops and cafes in the Cathedral Quarter.
With heads on spikes in the fortress built by the Romans and under siege from the Vikings, York has a dark history steeped in bloodshed and the paranormal overshadowed by the gothic cathedral of York Minster itself. These days, the historic cobbled streets are lined with boutiques, restaurants, and bars, although were told the odd ghost still lingers
Hull is home to some of the oldest, least known history in the UK and has really turned its reputation around following the nomination and award of City of Culture. Follow the Seven Seas Hull Fish Trail, a tour of the Old Town and its many attractions (and pubs), visit the worlds only submarium to see the penguins, sawfish and ultraviolet jellyfish or enjoy the varied culinary delights of Trinity Market.
