Three Countries Inclusive
We'll be staying at the heart of the popular historic town of Valkenburg which has for many years drawn people from all over due to its natural beauty and historic standing. Explore the spectacular underground marl caves on foot or by slow train, visit the ruins of the only castle on a hill in the Netherlands, or bathe in water that is over 40,000 years old in the futuristic spa of Thermae 2000.
Also enchanting visitors time and time again is the delightful German city of Aachen - perfectly located at the point where three countries meet, offering a blend of culture, spectacular views and rich history. Today, we will make our way to Cologne for our day around the fourth largest city in Germany - this impressive city sits on the banks of the River Rhine and is overshadowed by the imposing Cologne Cathedral (or Dom, in German) which is built in a Gothic style and towers 515 feet above the skyline. There are some of the best shopping areas within the city - all traffic free. If chocolate is your weakness, visit the Schokoladen museum that is located right on the side of the river - with its impressive views and fine chocolate-making demonstrations, this is one of the highlights of the city.
